Chiptunes are a popular style of 8-bit electronic music which can be easily replicated by any modern computer but authentic chiptunes are made used modified game controllers which have a limited audio output.
Here I've disassembled the screen of an original GameBoy in order to remove the original dim fixed brightness pale green display to add a bright orange backlight display. To control the brightness of this new screen I've soldered on a potentiometer brightness control. And in order to output proper stereo sound I've soldered on a new stereo audio jack. After being reassembled I now compose and play chiptunes right from the hacked GameBoy using a cartridge with special GameBoy specific DJ software.
